Happy Independence Day

For all my US friends, I wanted to wish you a very Happy July 4th.

In honor of those who fought for our freedom over 200 years ago, I wanted to digitally show my gratitude by creating a small fireworks celebration. I loaded it up on the HoloLens and recorded it for you. Enjoy!

Have a very Happy Independence Day!

HoloLens Tutorials–What do you want to see?

So I’m going to be carving out some time to create HoloLens tutorials and wanted to know what it is you wanted to see.

I was thinking about starting with a simple bouncing ball and then adding in spatial recognition so the ball will bounce around the room off of walls and furniture and the like. We will have voice commands that will allow navigating through the different screens of the game (menu, pause, game play, etc). We would create a breakout style of game that would place bricks strategically in the room and make the player / camera the paddle.

What do you think? Would you be interested in seeing this become a tutorial series teaching that or would you rather see something else? Let me know in the comments.  The more comments I get here and on my YouTube channel will let me know if I should spend any time creating this content, or spend my time doing something else. So please take a second and drop a quick line to let me know if you’d be interested or not and if there was some other sort of tutorial you are looking for in regards to HoloLens development.

Seriously. Leave a comment and let me know what kind of HoloLens tutorials you’d like to see.

Young Conker on the HoloLens

I was asked to show some Young Conker gameplay on the HoloLens on my YouTube channel. If you haven’t subscribed, you should. Smile

What are you doing with the HoloLens? Let me know in the comments. I’ll be showing some of the demos I’m working on soon … stay tuned!

Practical HoloLens: Lubricating a Mower

The hours gauge on my Walker mower was flashing “LUBE” letting me know that enough hours had passed that I needed to lubricate the fittings on the mower and couldn’t remember where all of them are. So I found the manual online and then saved it to my One Drive where I was able to pull it up on my HoloLens. I pinned the PDF (via the Edge browser) so I could easily see it while I was greasing the fittings.

Having the manual pinned like this was great. Much better than trying to see the detailed diagram on the phone and plus I didn’t have to get grease on the phone. I simply washed my hands before removing the HoloLens when I was done.

Here is a video of the process:

As I mentioned in the video, what would be ideal would be for Walker to create an app that would utilize spatial mapping to guide the user to all of the fittings with a 3D arrow. Should someone from Walker Mowers come across this and would like for me to build that app, let me know and I’m sure we can work something out.

There are tons of practical uses for the HoloLens. I’m looking forward to helping businesses create mixed reality experiences for users of their products and services. If you have a need for HoloLens development, don’t hesitate to let me know.
