The hours gauge on my Walker mower was flashing “LUBE” letting me know that enough hours had passed that I needed to lubricate the fittings on the mower and couldn’t remember where all of them are. So I found the manual online and then saved it to my One Drive where I was able to pull it up on my HoloLens. I pinned the PDF (via the Edge browser) so I could easily see it while I was greasing the fittings.
Having the manual pinned like this was great. Much better than trying to see the detailed diagram on the phone and plus I didn’t have to get grease on the phone. I simply washed my hands before removing the HoloLens when I was done.
Here is a video of the process:
As I mentioned in the video, what would be ideal would be for Walker to create an app that would utilize spatial mapping to guide the user to all of the fittings with a 3D arrow. Should someone from Walker Mowers come across this and would like for me to build that app, let me know and I’m sure we can work something out.
There are tons of practical uses for the HoloLens. I’m looking forward to helping businesses create mixed reality experiences for users of their products and services. If you have a need for HoloLens development, don’t hesitate to let me know.
