Learn HoloLens Contest and Membership Site Launch

Go to http://learnhololens.com/controller and enter to win a HoloLens Edition Xbox One controller!

Today I launched a new membership site to teach developers how to develop for the HoloLens.

I took a break from creating HoloLens demos this week to launch the site and put together this contest where I’m giving away a Bluetooth enabled Xbox One controller that will work with the HoloLens, Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and of course the Xbox One console.

This is an official Xbox One controller from Microsoft. The design was made by me and the “HoloLens Edition” is not official in any way. This is not endorsed by Microsoft. I simply created a cool HoloLens Edition design and wanted to give one away!

If you are interested in HoloLens development, then check out http://learnhololens.com

If you want a cool controller, or design your own then enter the contest and you will be given a link to this design that you could purchase if you’d like. It is $89.98 plus tax.

I’m looking forward to this limited time launch of the membership site.

It closes on 9/6 at midnight EST. This is an alpha launch (as in pre-beta) so it will be rough around the edges. The membership is the cheapest it will ever be. When I open enrollment again in a month or two for beta access, the price will be more.

Since opening it up this evening, we’ve already seen our first several alpha members join! Once Tuesday, 9/6 at midnight EST or the alpha slots fill up the cart will close. So if you have any interest in premium HoloLens content, then don’t wait. Sign up today!

HoloLens Beds

I wanted to see what it would look like to put a photo realistic bed model in the middle of my basement and then switch it out based on different styles…

I found a nice bed model on the Unity Asset Store and decided to bang out a quick HoloLens app to test it out. The realism of the beds are pretty good, which makes it work really well for this type of demo. It was actually tempting to at least sit on the bed. Of course, if I tried to sit down… I would have ended up on the floor! Fortunately, I was smart enough to stay standing, but it was interesting that my brain was telling it that the bed would be very comfortable to sit on and I should try it…

Hopefully you enjoyed it. Doing this little exercise made me think of another demo I can create in the future. I have exciting news to announce next week… so stay tuned!

HoloLens Developer Challenge: Wizard Battle (Sorcerer)

image

Displaying cool effects on the HoloLens is pretty fun. In this weeks video I show a little app I made where I display a staff and then can produce some sort of protective shield, or health replenishment, or any number of things that people who are more into Wizards, Sorcerers and Mages than I am could come up with. I just like the particle effects and the way they look through the HoloLens.

Last week, I did my take on being a mage casting spells … although most were some sort of a beam… and this week, as a sorcerer, I created some orbiting magical goodness.  I hope you enjoy. I’ll be devoting more and more time to the HoloLens in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for some in depth tutorials…

HoloLens Developer Challenge: Wizard Battle (Mage)

cydneyThere are a couple of HoloLens developer groups on Facebook. One of the groups has ran a couple of challenges. The current challenge is to create a Wizard Battle. This challenge ends on August 23rd. I may do something else with it, but if not, it was a fun diversion.

I’ve been posting HoloLens videos weekly for a few months now. If there is something you are wanting to see let me know and I’ll see what I can do. It seems more developers are getting their hands on the devices and are posting videos. It is great to see what everyone is doing.

Again, let me know what you want to see by leaving a comment either here on the blog or on YouTube!
